Decantador — a restaurant featuring minimal-intervention wines and a produce-led kitchen in Arequipa, Peru

Living wines & produce-led kitchen

Arequipa, Peru

About us

Eat and drink,
but with purpose.

We’re drawn to products with identity, wines with stories to tell, and people who do things their own way.

We cook with the seasons, contemporary technique and an Arequipeño accent. We serve wines from Peru and around the world — natural, biodynamic, organic and low-intervention. Living wines: spontaneous, imperfect and honest.

We’re in San Lázaro, in the heart of Arequipa. A place to eat, drink, listen to music, talk and discover. For those who live nearby and those who have come from far away. For the curious.

Because sometimes, the best way to get to know a place is to sit at its table.

Experiences

To get to know the grapes better, from a different perspective.

A different way to taste, discover, and make sense of what we drink.

Funky Wine Tasting

A journey into wines that break away from the usual. An invitation to step outside the familiar and discover what happens when different grape varieties, territories, and winemaking approaches come together with a fresh perspective. We start in Moquegua with a Muscat of Alexandria, exploring the identity of the grape and the place it comes from. Then we head to Ica for a natural skin-contact wine made from grape varieties traditionally used for pisco, with extended contact with their skins. A different way to explore the many sides of Peruvian wine. Next, we return to Arequipa to discover a volcanic red that connects us with the character of our own territory. And to wrap things up, we come back to Muscat of Alexandria, this time as a pét-nat — a naturally sparkling wine made using an ancestral method that reveals a whole new side of this variety. Four wines, four moments, and different ways of interpreting the grape, the place, and the process. Throughout the tasting, we’ll explore grape varieties, territories, and winemaking philosophies through wines with personality, identity, and character — wines that don’t play by the usual rules. Because it’s not just about tasting something different. It’s about discovering the story behind each bottle, exploring new flavors, and opening up new ways to understand and enjoy wine.

Southern Peruvian Pisco Tasting

A journey through the valleys and grape varieties of southern Peru. An invitation to discover the many expressions of Pisco and explore how territory, climate, soil, grape varieties, and production methods come together to create spirits with their own identity. We start in Majes with Quebranta, one of Peru’s signature grape varieties, deeply connected to the country’s pisco-making tradition. Then we head to Camaná for an acholado, a blend of different grape varieties that lets us explore the complexity and balance that each one brings to the mix. Next, we travel to Moquegua for an Italia, an aromatic grape that captures another expression of southern Peru. To finish, we arrive in Santa Rita de Siguas with a Moscatel Negra mosto verde, a style of pisco distillation that reveals another side of this iconic Peruvian spirit. Four piscos, four territories, and different ways of expressing the grape and its origins. Throughout the tasting, we’ll explore grape varieties, traditions, and production methods that shape the identity of southern Peru’s pisco culture. Because it’s not just about tasting different piscos. It’s about discovering the story behind each glass, picking up on the nuances of each place, and exploring the diversity of one of Peru’s most distinctive spirits.
